Resolution for Excel’s " … is locked for editing by …" or "locked for editing, open as read only" messages
Excel Lock Files
Excel Lock files begin with a "~
" and then the filename of the XLS (X) file.
For instance ~$filename.xlsx
The general advice is to delete the lock file.

The lock file is a hidden file.
The lock file may be found in a Shared Folder.
