Tableau Authentication Options (Sign In)
Login via Web Browsers
The following work regardless if Tableau is accessed directly or embedded into other web apps.
Logging in every time: User logs with their credentials as needed. Each logged session stays open for 12 hours since the last interaction (no need to log again). After a user logs off or 12h has passed by with no interaction to reports, users have to log in again.
Web browser’s password vault: Popular web browsers such as Chrome, FireFox and Edge allow users to save usernames and passwords to facilitate the login process (username and password are pre-filled out). In a secured environment, this process is simple and efficient.
Commercial password managers: Popular password managers such as LastPass and Password1 provide more secured and centrally managed way to facilitate the login process (username and password are pre-filled out). Secured Single Sign-On (SSO) is also part of their benefits.

Single Sign On (SSO): There are several methods available for SSO such as using commercial password managers, OpenID Connect or SAML. This approach might require DataSelf custom setup. Learn more about the options at:
Azure Active Directory: This is a popular method because many companies use MS Office 365. It leverages Azure AD SAML, including SSO and MFA. This approach might require DataSelf custom setup.
Google Active Directory: This is a popular method because many companies use GMail Enterprise. It leverages Google AD SAML, including SSO and MFA. This approach might require DataSelf custom setup.
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA): There are several methods for MFA in some of the options above. Tableau also provides its own MFA method. This approach might require DataSelf custom setup. Learn more about the options at:
