Your Tableau Creator license has been order from Salesforce (owner of the Tableau software).  In the next few days you’ll be receiving an email from Salesforce.  This process will require you to setup a profile with Salesforce to download the software.  More details can be found in our knowledgebase article and below.  Following the download and installation of the software, please follow the last article link to connect to your DataSelf site.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Next Steps:

  1. Once Tableau completes the DataSelf order request, if you are new to Tableau as a Customer, your Customer Portal Admin with receive an email from Tableau Cloud (reghelp@onlinemail.tableau.com) indicating that your Tableau Cloud site is waiting for you to “Activate My Site”.

  2. Once your Tableau Cloud Site is activated, your Customer Portal Admin will receive another email with an option to “Invite Others to Collaborate” on your new site. This can be skipped if you do not have multiple Creator licenses. If you do have multiple Creators and wish to share Portal Admin rights with another user, this functionality may help.

  3. Your final communication will come from Tableau Customer Service and will read “Welcome to the Tableau Portal”. There the Admin will be given instructions to “Activate Account” and download the license(s) and/or assign any additional licenses to specific team members.

    1.  How to access keys

Portal administrators can take the following steps to locate their licenses:

  1.  Login to https://customer-portal.tableau.com/s/ using your email address

  2. Click the “Deployment” tab

  3. Locate the correct deployment (we recommend sorting by “Renewal Descending”)

  4. Sort the keys by “Period End”

  5. From here, admins can assign the keys to any end user (Tableau does not assign keys to end users)

From Lori 5/31/2024:

If the client is buying Creator Desktop to extensively edit or create new Data Sources, they should add the parameter that stops Tbl from renaming the fields as they import:

Easiest way is:

Option 2 (Windows only): Change the shortcut target

  1. On the computer running Tableau Desktop, right-click the Tableau Desktop icon, and then click Properties.

  1. On the Shortcut tab, in Target, append -DADM=0 to the existing statement, and then click OK.

o   "C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau <version>\bin\tableau.exe" -DADM=0

o   (Replace <version> with your Tableau version)

  1. Double-click the Tableau Desktop icon to start Tableau Desktop.
