Connect ChatGPT to Your DataSelf Data Warehouse

This guide explains how to connect OpenAI’s ChatGPT to your DataSelf MCP+ for Data Warehousing & Analytics, using either ChatGPT on the web or the ChatGPT Desktop app.

Note: Custom MCP apps are available on supported ChatGPT plans and may require Developer Mode, depending on your plan and workspace. The exact UI may vary slightly as OpenAI continues to evolve the Apps experience.

Add the DataSelf MCP+ App

Option A: ChatGPT Web

  1. Open chatgpt.com/plugins in your browser.

  2. Click Add → Create MCP App.

  1. Fill in the form:NameDataSelf MCPConnection (Server URL)https://mcp.dataself.comAuthenticationOAuth

  2. Read the Custom MCP servers introduce risk notice and check I understand and want to continue.

  3. Click Create.

  1. Click Continue to DataSelf MCP and sign in with your DataSelf account.

  1. Done. DataSelf MCP now appears in your installed plugins.

Option B: ChatGPT Desktop

  1. Click your name in the bottom-left corner → Settings.

  1. Select Plugins.

  1. Click Add → Add MCP server.

  1. Fill in the form:NameDataSelf MCPTypeStreamable HTTPURLhttps://mcp.dataself.comLeave the remaining fields empty and click Save.

Grant Permissions

After you create the app, ChatGPT discovers the tools exposed by the DataSelf MCP+ server. We recommend enabling all available actions so ChatGPT can fully interact with your DataSelf data warehouse. This allows ChatGPT to:

  • Discover available databases and tables

  • Retrieve metadata

  • Execute SQL queries

  • Analyze business data

  • Return reports, charts, and summaries

If your MCP server uses Microsoft 365 authentication, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your Microsoft account and grant DataSelf permission to authenticate on your behalf.

Start Asking Questions

Open a new ChatGPT conversation. The DataSelf MCP+ connector is now available. To make sure ChatGPT uses DataSelf MCP+, include a reference such as DataSelf, MCP+, DS DW, or data warehouse in your prompt.

Start with broad exploratory questions, then drill into the results. For example:

  • “What tables are available in the DataSelf data warehouse?”

  • “Show me total sales by month for the past 12 months.”

  • “How many active customers do we have by region?”

  • “What is the current inventory level by warehouse?”

  • “Compare this year’s sales with last year’s by product category.”

The first time ChatGPT uses a DataSelf MCP+ tool in a new chat, it may ask for permission. Click Allow to proceed. You can expand the tool call to review the exact query executed.

Depending on your ChatGPT version, you may also be able to review the tool invocation before it runs, so you can see which DataSelf MCP+ action is being called.
