Connect Gemini to Your DataSelf Data Warehouse

This guide explains how to connect Google Gemini to your DataSelf MCP+ for Data Warehousing & Analytics. 

Once connected, you can use natural language to explore your curated data, query tables and models, analyze KPIs, and generate business insights—without writing SQL.

Prerequisites

Before starting, you need:

  • Access to a DataSelf data warehouse with DataSelf MCP+ enabled.

  • Your authorized Microsoft account for DataSelf.

  • Access to Gemini Spark.

  • A personal Google Account.

  • Gemini’s Keep Activity setting enabled.

Current Gemini limitations

Google currently limits custom MCP connections to users who:

  • Have access to Gemini Spark.

  • Are at least 18 years old and located in the United States.

  • Use a personal Google Account—not a work or school account.

  • Use Gemini in English.

Custom apps must initially be connected through the Gemini web app. Once connected, they can be used with Gemini Spark on the web and in the Gemini mobile app.

Add DataSelf MCP+ to Gemini

  1. Open Gemini in your browser.

  2. At the bottom of the left sidebar, click Settings & help.

  3. Select Connected Apps.

    If Connected Apps is not displayed, select Personal Intelligence, and then select Connected Apps.

  4. Under Custom apps for Spark, find Add a custom app link to get started.

    If you already have custom apps, click Add a custom app.

  5. Enter the following MCP server URL:

    1. https://dw-mcp.dataself.com/dw3/mcp

  1. Click Next.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the app.

Sign In to DataSelf

When prompted:

  1. Sign in using the Microsoft account authorized to access your DataSelf environment.

  2. Review and approve the requested permissions.

  3. Complete the connection process and return to Gemini.

DataSelf MCP+ should now appear under your custom Connected Apps.

Use DataSelf MCP+ in Gemini

Open Gemini Spark and ask a question about your data. Gemini should automatically select the appropriate DataSelf MCP+ tools.

Example prompts:

  • List the DataSelf entities I can access.

  • Show the tables available in my data warehouse.

  • Describe the sales invoice table.

  • Show total sales by year.

  • Compare sales this year with last year.

  • Show the top 10 customers by sales.

  • Calculate sales, cost, and gross profit by product category.

  • Identify the largest year-over-year changes in revenue.

When your connection provides access to multiple DataSelf entities, Gemini may ask which entity you want to analyze. You can also specify the entity name or key in your prompt.

Verify the Connection

To verify that Gemini can access DataSelf MCP+, ask:

List the DataSelf entities I can access.

Then select an entity and ask:

List the tables available for this entity.

If Gemini returns your accessible entities and warehouse tables, the connection is working.

Manage or Remove the Connection

To manage DataSelf MCP+:

  1. Open Gemini.

  2. Go to Settings & help → Connected Apps.

  3. Find DataSelf MCP+ under Custom apps for Spark.

  4. Turn the connection off, or select More details to disconnect or remove it.

Disconnecting revokes Gemini’s access but retains the custom app configuration. Removing the app disconnects it and removes it from your Connected Apps list.

Security and Data Access

DataSelf MCP+ uses secure authentication and only provides access to the DataSelf entities authorized for your Microsoft account.

The connection is designed for controlled, read-only data exploration. Gemini can query the curated tables, schemas, and data models available through your DataSelf environment, but it cannot use DataSelf MCP+ to modify your warehouse data.
